    Refugee and Asylum Seekers

Policy Statement: Asylum seekers deserve access to the full protection of Australian laws that onshore processing gives them; they deserve their rights under the Refugee Convention, to which Australia has been a signatory since 1954.

    Policy Platform

    • Commonwealth Government should expand and strengthen Australia’s Refugee and Humanitarian Program and to build international cooperation aimed at enhancing refugee protection.
    • Australia should not deflect protection responsibilities to other countries, to weaken the protection provided by Australia to refugees and to limit the scrutiny of Australia’s refugee status determination processes and oppose the mandatory indefinite detention of asylum seekers
